Works exhibited inside the concentration camp memorials of Dachau and Flossenbürg, Germany — November 2007 through January 2008.
In one of the most significant exhibitions of his career, Mark Strickland's paintings were installed inside the "Versohnungskirche" — the Church of Reconciliation — at Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial. The exhibition placed his work in direct confrontation with one of history's most devastating sites, asking viewers to reckon with memory, grief, and the stubborn persistence of the human spirit.
His series "Here Fly No More Butterflies" — named after a poem written by Pavel Friedmann, a child prisoner at Terezín — and works from "Children of Dachau" were shown to international audiences. The exhibition was covered by international press and led to Mark's Honorary Membership in Rotary Peace International in 2009.
"Painting or any other art form can be a way to turn pain, fear and victimization into flowers of calmness and wisdom." — Mark Strickland
